High intensity interval training ( HIIT ) , also known as high -intensity exercise constantly ( Hiie ) or interval training sprint , is a method for improving the training period , a strategy implementation time alternating anaerobic exercise stress short with recovery time less stressful . Original protocol set a 2:1 ratio of work to recovery time , for example , 30-40 seconds hard sprints interspersed with 15-20 seconds jogging or walking .

HIIT is considered to be an excellent way to maximize a workout that is limited on time .
